Road trip > Hood River, OR & Stevenson, WA

by Rainbow Bobbins

I joined Heather and Amira for a quick get away to Hood River, Or. We took a short loop bike ride through the valley – good hill training here. We passed idyllic farm houses, a patchwork goat, almost made it up a steep hill to a lavender patch and took a pit stop at Rasmussen Farms to pet King and check out the flowers. I love coming here in the fall to pick pumpkins.  We had lunch at Double Mountain Brewery then I split off to spend the night at  Columbia Gorge Riverside Lodge in Stevenson, WA. This lodge is a cool, well crafted log structure with a hot tub overlooking the Columbia Gorge. The only drawback is that it is right next to a very busy train track. I was awaken by blasts every hour and had strange dreams about skateboarding in roller skates and missiles exploding trucks of propane. I was tired in the morning but soaked it off at dawn in the tub with strong coffee and a slice of lemon cake. Just down the street from the lodge is a small bar/restaurant with a good happy hour and a large river-side deck with views of the gorge – it didn’t catch the name.

Can you see Mt. Hood?

The Sternwheeler showed up late in the night - there were bats flying all around

View from the hot tub. Geez. I could get used to that.
