Upper Falls of Butte Creek

On Saturday CP and I headed south through the country side, past the quaint hamlet of Scotts Mills and up a fire road to the Butte Creek Falls trail. What a lovely hike!  I think this is the perfect time to hike it with the leaves turning all yellow-orangey. It might be nice on a really hot day as a swimming hole. The hike is very short and easy and the lower falls were a dramatic and pleasant surprise. Highly recommend this hike as there are several other excursions in the area including another short hike to Abiqua Falls, and the charming towns of Scotts Mills and Silverton. Silver Falls State Park is nearby too which has inexpensive, heated cabins for rent and 10 waterfalls on a mellow 8 mile trail. Also nearby is the German-influenced town of Mt. Angel and its mysterious Abby – which is definitely worth a stop in my opinion.
