A Sunny Saturday

by Rainbow Bobbins

Sunny Saturdays – precious things to be celebrated in the PacNW. We decided to spend the entire day outside — starting the day off with a short hike in the Gorge at Latourell Falls.

Latourell is an easy hike with two impressive waterfalls and it is only 20 minutes outside of PDX’s Eastside. On any nice day the Gorge will get crowded with hikers and Sunday drivers. I recommend heading out early.

On the way back to Portland we stopped off at the Vista House for expansive views of the Gorge.

Inspired by the nice weather and recent shrub obsessions we went to a craigslist plant sale after the hike where I picked up a new fern, 3 mystery hostas, 2 blueberry bushes and a penstemon – all for $30. Not bad. In the afternoon we called up Jess and Andy to meet us for a beer on the patio of NePo 45. This place is a great neighborhood pub with a good tap list, tasty fried chicken and yum-o smoked meatballs – I come here for their house salad which is topped with fried capers. Fried Capers. Funny how that one little addition can make a salad awesome. It was a good day.
