Hike > Central Salmon River > Mt. Hood National Forest

by Rainbow Bobbins

DSCN8895Sunday was spent on a day hike in the gorgeous Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness Area near Mt. Hood. This is a relaxing hike in a super-lush fern-filled forest. The trail follows the Salmon River and leads to a nice lunch spot/lookout area over a small river valley. Here are a few of the too many pictures I took:

There are some great spots to camp overnight for a mellow backpacking trip. This is a popular trail although we did not see too many people on a Sunday – maybe 10 total. We did the central part of the trail which was 7.5 miles and had a 900ft elevation gain. Here and here are two resources for more information on this hike and others in the area. Any suggestions for favorite/lovely/great hikes near Mt. Hood? I’m hoping to get to Ramona Falls soon.
