Above is the new-ish columnar apple tree and pictured below are beets. I’ve never had luck with beets, I’m hoping the raised beds with loose soil will result in my first successful crop. It hailed this week so I was a little worried about damaged plants but everything seems to be doing fine.

Green beans are coming along nicely and fairing much better than last year when they were getting munched by slugs shortly after emerging. I’ve had some nice salads from the lettuces below:

The tomatoes above have put on some slow growth and below is a tangle of potatoes and peas … but no pea pods have formed yet.

I think the raised beds are some good for the carrots — it looks like a healthy crop! Time to plant the second round.
