Finally hiked Ramona Falls on Saturday. It was hot and dusty with little shade!  I plan to return next spring to see the rhododendrons in bloom along the trail. This is an extremely popular hike — there were over 60 cars at the trailhead. If you go pick up a NW Forest Pass in Zigzag before you hit the trail. There is no way to pay for parking at the trailhead. The Ramona Falls trail is 7 Miles RT (although our tracker logged over 8 miles) with less than 1000ft of elevation gain. There are beautiful moments along the trail including a Sandy River view of Mt. Hood and the waterfall. On Saturday my judgement may have been soured by the 90 degree heat  but this trail ranks lower on my list of destination waterfall hikes near Portland. I prefer Fall Creek Falls, Siouxson Creek, Butte Creek and Horse Tail Falls – although I might have a different opinion of Ramona Falls when I return to hike it in cooler weather late next spring. Silver Falls  is always good  for a easy waterfall buffet. There is more exploring to do! What are your favorite waterfall hikes in Oregon/SW Washington?
