I have completed my second quilt. Actually, that statement is very misleading…my talented mom and I have completed our 2nd collaborative quilt. I worked on the top and Mom did the quilting and binding that makes it shine. This one is for my new little niece. My goal is learn how to do the ‘real’ quilting and improve my skills but in the meantime I’m very happy with how this one turned out. Here is our first quilt for reference. I started this quilt back in August but the original design was looking overworked so I decided to go a different direction. I remembered that I had remnants of the fabric I had dyed and painted for my first quilt way back in October of 2011 (crazy!)- some of it still had the fusible backing. Why didn’t I think of this earlier? I went with a triangle/starburst pattern vs. the Easter eggs of the last quilt. I like the way the colors pop off of the dark background. Mom is a great quilter and did such a lovely job free-handing hearts with grey thread (see detail below). Can’t wait to send this off to my new niece Mayla! A lot of love went into this quilt and I loved working with my mom on this.
